ARP Project: UNPACKING DATA

So what I discovered is that whilst students crave community and want to spend time at university, they prefer more private, intimate spaces for working or engaging with peers. Students do not like open concept or shared space as they are hyper aware of themselves and how they are perceived by others. This was especially captured in the annotation activity with the images of the elevator where students said they were aware of how they are breathing, if they smell bad, one student even said they turn down their music because they don’t want other people to hear what they are listening to. Because of these pressures, many students, will often leave as soon as their mandatory classes and sessions are complete. So in order to be considerate to our students needs, if we want to create a sense of belonging and campus spirit at the East bank university we need to consider and strategise, how we can offer students these quieter, more private spaces.
